Full-Stack Software Engineer

Idaho Falls, Idaho | Full-time

About the job

LabStats is a SaaS EdTech company building a business intelligence platform and we are searching for a software engineer at any stage of their career to join us in taking our product to the next level. We are looking for someone who is passionate, has strong opinions of their own while being very respectful of others, and who can round out and diversify our way of thinking. We hope you’ll join us on that journey!

Work Location:

Remote or from our Idaho Falls, ID office

What We (And You Will) Do

  • Dive Deep Into Real Problems. We drive our product forward by taking on real problems. We bring together Product and Engineering teams to find solutions to the problems our customers face. We also do this for our dev-owned systems.
  • Build & Ship Things. We build new backend services, customer facing features, and whole new apps. We also regularly reinvest in and rebuild our current systems. You’ll be designing, prototyping, and developing and you’ll own your work all the way to production.
  • Invest in Our Systems. We love when things run well, so we fix bugs and get rid of technical debt. We solve scalability problems and find ways to improve system availability.
  • Build & Promote Architecture. We insist on having well architected solutions, so we’re always improving and refining our architectural goals. We hold design reviews and code reviews to make sure all our work stays on track.
  • Wear Many Hats. We’re a small team so we do a little bit of everything. We’re not just devs. We’re also part QA tester and DevOps engineer and whatever else we need to be to get the job done.
  • Build Up Our Peers. Our junior devs have things to teach and our senior devs have things to learn (and vice versa). We share our knowledge and we mentor each other so that we can all learn from and grow together.
  • Challenge the Status Quo. We have a culture of continuous improvement so we strive to get better every day. We know we can improve and innovate ourselves and our processes just like we can our code.

Our Stack & Tools

  • We build and manage web applications, mobile apps, APIs, and background services for Windows and macOS platforms. We hope to get on Linux as well.
  • Most of our code runs in the Microsoft Azure cloud in data centers around the world.
  • On the backend, we use C# and SQL with ASP.NET MVC and fairly vanilla HTML, CSS, and Javascript on the frontend. We’re also using a little bit of Objective-C.
  • We use Visual Studio, Git, and Azure DevOps in a Windows environment. Occasionally we switch over to a macOS environment.

Life at LabStats

  • We own the SDLC and the develop/ship pipeline. When we don’t like it, we change it.
  • We automate everything we can. Builds, testing, deployments.
  • We have a continuous delivery approach, so we’re ready to build, fix, and ship at any time.
  • We aren’t deadline driven. We’re quality and experience driven.
  • We’re a small team, so everyone is deeply involved in critical work for our business.
  • We’re full stack and have a wide variety of software so we don’t get stuck—or bored.
  • We’re disciplined. We have a high bar for quality, professionalism, and attitude. But we have fun and we bend the rules.
  • We collaborate, work, and succeed as a team.

Our requirements are simple: we want someone who lives our core values. We value team players who have a great attitude, have passion, get stuff done, and continuously work to be better.

  • Comprehensive insurance with company contribution (health, dental, vision, life)
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Generous PTO & flexible schedules
  • Startup environment with the stability of a profitable, 18-year business
