Moving to alternative learning environments without notice was and continues to be a challenge for colleges and universities around the world. IT teams are giving up nights and weekends, overcoming huge technical hurdles and implementing new technology to keep their students connected to campus resources, wherever they may be.
In light of the changing educational landscape, our team developed the Remote Access Dashboard virtually overnight. It started as a scrappy solution to an urgent problem, and has grown into a viable solution for over 150 schools across 3 continents.
Our development team has worked closely with each and every school, building features and customizing dashboards to meet a wide range of needs.

Similar to RDP for Windows, the de facto remote connection approach on the Mac platform is VNC, which the Remote Access Dashboard supports. VNC offers seamless connections from a Mac to a Mac but does require a VNC viewer when connecting from Windows to Mac. We want to stress the importance of proper setup and configuration, as is the case with any remote access tool you choose, to ensure secure and private connections. Additional configurations to and from Macs are supported.
Custom Main Message
At the top of the page, you can add instructions for connecting to VPN, or anything else. You may want to include a link to a pdf, page on your website or list of labs with specialized software. Whatever information would help your students find and connect to the specific resources they need can be added here.
Custom Lab Descriptions
A new way to help students find specialized software and direct traffic to appropriate labs, you can now add custom descriptions to each lab. These descriptions will help balance the load on labs at the top of the list and encourage students enrolled in specific courses to access computers only with the software they need.
Custom Branding
Our team started adding school logos to dashboards by request, and have now made it a feature available to all. Logos appear at the top left of the dashboard, and reassure students that they’re in a familiar school space.

To make changes to your dashboard, log into your LabStats portal, go to the “Lab Tools” tab and click on “Remote Access.” For further customizations, please contact the LabStats Support Team.
